Double Time Convenience Store in Rockport, Maine features two EOS-S20 Collectors. The system consists of an 80 gallon solar pre-heat tank that feeds and instant-on tankless hot water heater. This design provides all of the domestic hot water needs for the store, including
the full service Kitchen and Deli.
"We have seen a dramatic decrease in our hot water heating costs... it should pay for itself within a few years... With the issues of global warming so important today we are trying to do our part to help."

EOS...What makes us ECO-Friendly?
_____We believe that a commitment to improving our environment should begin with the choice of materials that our products are manufactured with.
EOS Solar has carefully selected materials to build our products from that will aid in an overall "eco-footprint" reduction.
_____EOS Solar strives to provide a better product made of as many recycled/renewable resources as possible.
_____Our specially designed absorber plates are manufactured out of recycled aluminum.
|
|
|
_____The extremely rugged, powder coated, aluminum header is manufactured using a percentage of recycled aluminum. |
| _____Other manufacturers have selected to use a silicon based rubber stopper at the top of the evacuated tube, we have decided to employ a cork based stopper due to it's superior ability to absorb the thermal expansion and
contraction, and possible moisture content of the atmosphere within the inner tube. |
 |
| _____Cork is a renewable resource that further reduces our products "eco-footprint". By using cork we are also providing a continued effort in
protecting one of the last natural forest ecosystems, and the economy and culture that has grown with it over thousands of years. Due to the efforts of supermarkets in the U.S. desire to protect wine from possible tainting,
oxidation and leakage, Vintners are being forced to switch to synthetic stoppers. This has had an adverse effect on the cork industry, and we are proud to deliver a new use for the damaged cork market. |

_____Other manufactures use a polyurethane based foam insulation in their header manifolds. This is a closed-cell foam insulation material that contains a low-conductivity gas (usually hydro chloro fluoro carbons or HCFC) in its
cells, and requires a highly eco-destructive, chemically dependent process to manufacture. |
_____Several varieties of HCFC insulation require flame retardants in order to meet fire safety standards. Unfortunately, Penta-BDEs, or
penta-brominated diphenyl ethers -- a type of brominated flame retardant frequently used in polyurethane foam products -- pose a recently recognized and worrisome concern. Although the human health effects of pentaBDEs are unclear, scientists are concerned about studies showing rising levels of the chemical in human breast milk. Studies by Health Canada and Environment Canada have found that penta-BDE levels in breast milk in
North America have increased by 15 times over the last ten years. In research on animals, penta-BDEs have been shown to damage the liver, harm developing brains, and lower thyroid hormone production. While penta-BDEs have been voluntarily banned in Europe, polyurethane foam made in the U.S. typically comprises as much as 25% penta-BDEs. Moreover, it is possible for deca-BDE's, another kind of brominated flame retardant, to
degrade into 2 penta-BDE molecules, posing yet another brominated flame retardant risk.
_____We employ the use of a highly dense "Rock Wool" or rockwool insulation material. Rockwool is produced from natural rocks, such as basalt and diabase, and is incombustible. Rockwool insulation is an excellent insulation
material and is fully safe to use under all conditions. It has been in world wide use for over 70 years, and during that time it's manufacture and use have been extensively monitored and researched. It is clear from this
monitoring and research that no serious health effects have ever occurred in those manufacturing, using or otherwise exposed to rockwool insulation. In fact, none of the products that compete with rockwool in the
marketplace have been subjected to the same amount of research to establish their safe credentials. It is classified by the IARC (International Agency for Research into Cancer) as a category 3 insulation material, which
make it: "not classifiable as carcinogenic to humans... and there is no evidence of increased risks of lung cancer or mesothelioma. " Rockwool offers a zero absorption of moisture rate, has a neutral PH, and there is no risk of
chemicals leaching from it into our atmosphere... did we mention that it insulates really well too? |
_____As we continue to preform Research and Development we pledge to continually attempt to make the processes that we use to manufacture, distribute, and install our products as "Eco-Friendly" as possible. |
